MOT TESTs
Every vehicle in the UK requires an MOT test to ensure that it is kept roadworthy.
An MOT test consists of various checks to ensure that each vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards, required by law.
As a DVSA Authorised MOT Centre, we are held to the highest of governmental standards. Entrusted to ensure that vehicles in use on UK roads abide by section 45 of the Road Traffic Act of 1988 requiring that all vehicles must be in a road worthy condition preventing risk of injury or death to your self or the general public.
Our testing station’s equipment is tied directly into the DVSA system streamlining the issuance of your pass or fail certificate and enforcing the positive reputation of our testing centre.
Whilst other MOT stations centres may still be using older technology allowing the risk of human error, our testers are subject to regular refresher training ensuring every requirement change (more frequent than most would think) is known to our testers promptly.

Preparing for your MOT
Check Tyres
Standard tyres have grooves that go around the tyre called the tread, using a tyre tread gauge in between these grooves the gauge should always read 1.6mm or more. Anything less than this is illegal and should be replaced immediately.
A tyre pressure gauge should be used to ensure they match the vehicle handbooks recommendations which can affect steering and braking.
On a single axel the tyres must be of the same size and tread type.
Finally visually look around your tyre for bulges, cuts, exposed metal cords, uneven wear or something that could cause a puncture for example a nail or screw.
Check Horn
During the daytime between 7am and 11:30pm press firmly your horn for a 1 second period to ensure it works properly.
WARNING: Striking/punching your horn aggressively risks deploying your airbag, always use in a calm and controlled manner.
Dashboard
When you turn your vehicle on several lights will appear on the dashboard for up to 3 seconds. After this if a light is on your dashboard that you have not intentionally set for example the engine management light (check engine warning) you should book your car in for diagnostics before your MOT any red lights staying light on your dashboard we recommend you turn pull up and turn your engine off and call us.
Seat Belts
All seat belts must secure into their holsters and do not release unintentionally. They must not be frayed and securely bolted to the vehicle.
We are not allowed to remove any baby or child seat to test the relevant seat belt, this is not an MOT fail but an advisory. We ask you remove such seats before coming to the test centre.
Seats
Test your seats are secure on their runners and do not move without using the designated adjusters. Ensure headrests adjust properly and remain in the position adjusted to.
